Traffic Control personnel provide maintenance and repair of:
- 5,100+ street signs
- 261,000 lineal feet of street painting striping
- traffic signals, pavement markings, street signs, barricade control and meter maintenance.
Muscatine Public Works Department is responsible for traffic matters throughout the city. These include traffic signing (Stop, Yield, Speed Limit, School Zones, etc.), and pavement markings.
If a resident wishes to request a sign be installed or removed from a particular address, a request must first be submitted to the Traffic Committee for consideration. This committee is comprised of the Public Works Director, Roadway Maintenance Supervisor, City Engineer, Community Development Director, a representative from the Muscatine Police Department, a representative from the Muscatine Community School District, and a representative from Muscatine Power and Water. If you have a request for a street sign installation or removal, please send your request to:

Each year, it is necessary to refresh the roadway striping and markers throughout the city. Visibility of pavement markings is important to preventing traffic accidents. Painting of street markings are contracted out on a yearly basis. In addition, the City of Muscatine has a small crew that will paint crosswalks and stop bars, as well as parking stalls.
