The Muscatine Fire Department provides limited water and ice rescue to the citizens and visitors of the City of Muscatine. They work with Muscatine Sheriff's Department it is our goal to provide a swift timely response with well trained personnel in the event they are needed for 1 of these rescues. During the boating season a Muscatine County Sheriffs boat is stationed at the marina that is utilized by MFD personnel to provide fast services. This team is separate from Muscatine County Search and Rescue (MSAR). Muscatine County Search and Rescue, Muscatine County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), and Muscatine Fire are all typically dispatched for an emergency on the Mississippi River. The water rescue team is called out to provide immediate advanced life support options in an emergency. They are typically not dispatched to stranded boaters.
Ice rescue services are also provided in the event that a person falls
through the ice or becomes trapped in water. Muscatine Fire Department
is equipped with specialized suits and rope rescue equipment for this
type of condition. they work with both MSAR and MCSO while conducting
these types of operations. At this time these services are only provided
in the city fire response district. Engine 311 and Station 1 are responsible for these services.
